Campaign update: Justice for Britain’s 3,000+ ‘witches’ - grant a Royal Pardon

Latest: Help secure a Royal Pardon for British ‘witches’ by signing the Justice for Witches petition.

Between 1542 and 1735, an estimated 3,000 people in Great Britain, the vast majority marginalised women, were unjustly convicted under historic Witchcraft Acts. They faced trial without legal representation and were convicted of an impossible crime without evidence.

The Justice for Witches campaign is calling on the UK Government to grant a posthumous Royal Pardon to restore the character and dignity of these innocent victims.

Why this matters today

  • Standing against misogyny: The historic witch trials show where extreme anti-women ideology leads. Securing a pardon sends a firm message against modern misogyny and gender-based persecution.

  • Tackling global harm: Belief in witchcraft and related abuse remain serious human rights issues worldwide today. A Royal Pardon reinforces that harmful practices and human rights violations will not be tolerated.

We are halfway there - Parliament has already acknowledged that witchcraft was an ‘impossible crime’. Now, it’s time to grant full exoneration.
