About the conference
On 10 - 11 November 2026, INAWARA and the University of Livingstonia will host the first international conference dedicated to putting UN Human Rights Council Resolution 47/8 into practice. Held at the Grand Palace Hotel in Mzuzu, Malawi, this landmark gathering brings together over 70 researchers, frontline practitioners, traditional authorities, faith leaders, policymakers and survivor-advocates across 20+ countries.
Adopted on 12 July 2021, Resolution 47/8 commits states to eliminate harmful practices linked to witchcraft accusations and ritual attacks. This conference provides a vital global platform to translate high-level policy into concrete action, focusing on those most often targeted - women, older persons, children, persons with albinism and persons with disabilities. It will conclude by creating the Mzuzu Statement of Practical Commitments.
What your support pays for
Many of the most essential voices, including early-career scholars, community-based workers and survivor-advocates, face significant financial barriers to participation. Most cannot attend without help.
A two-night place for one delegate costs USD $200-$335 (depending on if local or from Global South) and fully covers registration, accommodation, local transfers and catering.
Our goal is to raise USD $15,000 to enable 35 to 40 key presenters and survivor-advocates to participate, as well as underwrite the conference networking dinners where long-term international collaborations are built.
Ways to partner: sponsorship tiers
We offer structured sponsorship tiers to align with varying grant budgets and institutional priorities. Cash and in-kind contributions (such as French/English interpretation, printing, AV/livestreaming, and local transport) are equally welcome.
1. Friend of the Conference: USD $335
Direct impact: Sponsor one presenter or survivor-advocate for the entire conference (covers registration, accommodation, transfers and catering). Bundles welcome (e.g., 5 delegates = $2,000).
Recognition: Listed as a Delegate Sponsor in the official program and post-conference report.
2. Contributing Partner: USD $1,500
Direct impact: Funds approximately 4 delegates to attend the conference.
Recognition: Logo on website and program, verbal acknowledgement from the podium, 1 complimentary delegate place, listed in the post-conference report, and group social media thank-you.
3. Supporting Partner – USD $3,000
Direct impact: Funds approximately 8 delegates or underwrites one full day of conference catering.
Recognition: Logo on website, program and venue banners; named sponsor of a session stream; shared exhibition/literature table; 2 complimentary delegate places; acknowledgement at opening/closing ceremonies; named in post-conference report; dedicated social media post.
4. Lead Partner – USD $6,000
Direct Impact: Funds approximately 15 delegates and underwrites both official conference dinners.
Recognition: Headline billing and logo on all event materials; welcome remarks during the Opening Ceremony; named sponsor of a conference dinner; dedicated exhibition/literature table; 3 complimentary delegate places; named in the post-conference report and Mzuzu Statement; dedicated social media feature.
