About Our Event
Join us for our next INAWARA webinar when we welcome Pedro Haram Colucci to speak about witchcraft accusations and wrongful convictions in Brazil. Pedro is well placed to understand the discriminatory processes in action in the criminal justice system in Brazil - his master’s research focused on witchcraft accusations as catalysts for wrongful convictions in Brazil, examining their role in evidentiary distortions and moral panics. Furthermore, for his PhD, he is researching the deployment of facial recognition systems in public security and the production of algorithmic bias. He pays particular attention to the many discriminatory outcomes and structural risks to due process and criminal justice that have taken place.
