Call for Papers now open

We invite paper and panel proposals for an international conference on Witchcraft Accusations and Human Rights: Stakeholder Responses to UN Resolution 47/8, to be held at the University of Livingstonia, Mzuzu, Malawi, on 10–11 November 2026.

Witchcraft accusations continue to result in serious human rights violations in many parts of the world, particularly affecting women, children, older persons and people with disabilities. In response, UN Resolution 47/8 calls on states and other actors to prevent violence, protect those at risk and address the structural and social conditions that allow such harms to persist.

This conference brings together scholars, practitioners, faith leaders, community authorities, policymakers and advocates to critically examine how diverse stakeholders are engaging with this agenda in practice. We seek contributions that explore challenges, responsibilities, successes and failures, as well as innovative, context-sensitive approaches to prevention, accountability and protection.

Participants will engage with global and local perspectives, share grounded experience and contribute to building stronger cross-sectoral and cross-regional partnerships in this urgent field.
